My vet tells me with my dog's torn acl, surgery is the only answer.....is this true? can it heal at all?
Hi. I have experience with this..but in a cat. Yes, a torn ACL is very rare in a cat, but i can tell you my experience. I got her the surgery 6 weeks ago. She had to have the "normal" basic surgery, not a TTA or TPLO surgery. (both tta and tplo are much easier and have better recovery times...my cat was just too tiny for them) She is doing just fine now! The surgery was well well worth it. If money is not too big an issue, find an orthepedic specialist to ess which surgery is best. Unfortunetly, it can get much worse and just develop into arthritis and such withut surgery. They do very well afterwards, though. I've heard that in dogs, the other acl commonly gets damaged too, so please be careful watching. Good luck.
