Do drive by shootings or shootings in general happen in Makati Philippines?

In particular outside of bars such as on P. Burgos Street where all the go-go bars are? Is that area dangerous? I had a bad experience there and I am convinced that it was partly my own fault for being in that kind of area but that bad experience got me wondering just what kind of other dangers I could have been in while walking down P. Burgos Street and 2-3am in the morning. What happened was someone asked me for money and I refused so the crowd started giving me a hard time and cussing at me. So I flipped off the people that were giving me a hard time. I was surrounded by the street people until the police got there and then the police made me give them $300. I am just wondering what are some of the dangers that situation could have got me in. Could I have been shot of stabbed? What if I had refused to go with the police to the station where they extorted $300 from me? What if I had just said I am leaving and walked off? Would I have gotten out of paying them my money or would I have been beat up by the crowd or police? Would the police have let the crowd beat me up and possibly stab me? Was I really in danger being surrounded by these street people in the middle of P. Burgos Street in Makati? Up until that happened I had thought that Makati was the safest place in the Philippines due to all the security. I did not realize that it was so dangerous.
